Ingredients
- Beef – 1 kg
- Chopped onion – 1 cup
- Ginger paste – 1 tbsp
- Garlic paste – 1 tbsp
- Tomato paste – 1/2 cup
- Yogurt – 1/2 cup
- Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
- Chili powder – 1 tbsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
- Cumin powder – 1 tsp
- Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
- Bay leaves – 2
- Cinnamon sticks – 2 pieces
- Cardamom – 4
- Cloves – 4–5
- Salt – to taste
- Sugar – 1 tsp (optional)
- Oil – 1/2 cup
- Warm water – as needed
Cooking Steps
- Heat oil in a pan and fry chopped onions until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- In the same oil, add bay leaves, cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves.
- Add ginger and garlic paste, sauté until the raw smell disappears.
- Add tomato paste and cook until oil separates.
- Add turmeric, chili, coriander, cumin powder, and salt. Cook well.
- Add the beef and cook for 8–10 minutes until it changes color.
- Add yogurt, fried onions, and sugar. Mix well.
- Add warm water, cover, and cook on medium heat for 1–1.5 hours until tender.
- Finish with garam masala powder and stir well.
Serving
Serve hot with rice, pulao, khichuri, or flatbread.
Tips
- Cook the spices well for better flavor
- Pressure cooker reduces time to 25–30 minutes
- Use warm water for better cooking
